This is short and sweet. When you have a cold, don’t bother wasting money on expensive sachets of powdered remedies or bottles of cough mixture. They don’t really contain much apart from paracetamol and sugar.
Put a slice of fresh lemon in a mug, add a teaspoon of runny honey and two or three thin slivers of ginger. Use fresh ginger if you have it but I’ve used the jarred ginger before, just make sure it’s sliced and not minced! Pour hot water from the kettle on top and give it a stir.
If I have a pounding headache, I’ll take a paracetamol too but the drink alone is really comforting.
The honey will soothe a sore throat, ginger can help settle a delicate tummy and the lemon is mildly antiseptic. Plus the steam smells divine and will help clear a blocked nose. Fresh, clean and delicious.
